Preparation of a Conceptual Design for a Street Lighting System - Egypt (2014 - 2015)

The 2012 Egyptian Solar Plan targets the installation of 3,500 MW of solar power by 2027. To support this, the Cabinet of Ministers then issued a resolution to install photovoltaic systems (PV) in government buildings, including street lighting systems. Through the New Urban Communities Authority, IIEC provided technical assistance to Egypt to pilot a project on LED street lighting powered by solar energy using a photovoltaic system. A conceptual design for a six-kilometer desert road was developed through site visits, review of national codes and relevant specifications, review of previous experiences and lessons learned from PV-powered street lighting in the country.
