Workshop description:
The importance of public transportation and technological options is well-recognized
by Indian policy and decision-makers. Several efforts by the urban development
departments across the country (central and state governments) are in progress,
which target developing an optimally priced transport system with the goal of
providing viable transport systems for all members of society. At the same time,
policy-makers concerned with promoting environmentally sound practices, specifically
for improving ambient air quality, have been working towards setting standards
and common practices. The relationship between air quality, energy and health
impacts is also evident and being brought in to the policy debate. This two
day workshop will bring together local and international speakers to look at
existing best practices and to discuss and debate desirable actions for possible
future requirements for research, policy and technology.
