Energy Sector Capacity Building (ESCB) - Jordan (2016 - 2017)

The USAID-funded Energy Sector Capacity Building (ESCB) Project is committed to developing the financial, regulatory, and legal enabling frameworks needed to scale up energy efficiency and renewable energy in Jordan. The ESCB project helps enable RE and EE through three main tasks: (i) policies that support investment in energy-saving measures; (ii) building the institutional capacity needed for effective management of the energy sector; and (iii) supporting the private sector to provide clean energy technologies and services. A key ESCB activity is supporting the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to implement policies contained in the 2007 Energy Strategy, the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Law, and the 2012 National Energy Efficiency Action Plan.

IIEC has been sub-contracted with the main purpose to provide capacity building and technical assistance in support of implementing the instructions regarding compulsory energy audits for all facilities consuming more than 50 toe. ESCB will also support MEMR in justifying the policy on mandatory energy audits for the largest energy consumers and developing new approaches to enlist the support of the private sector regarding this policy.
