Project Description and Summary of Services






The objective of this project is to provide the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) with technical assistance and training to implement the DSM and Building Code components of its Action Plan. Faced with the challenging problems of India’s power sector, e.g. capacity constraints, power quality and reliability, low collection efficiency, tariff subsidies, etc., the BEE is determined to prove the Action Plan it developed under USAID’s Energy Conservation and Commercialization (ECO) project. The BEE needs this technical assistance in light of the existing policy and market barriers to the widespread commercialization and large scale implementation of end-use energy efficiency improvements in India.

Service Provided:

  • Establishment of DSM Cells in 2 state utilities
  • Load research and market research for development of a database for program design
  • Capacity building in all aspects of program design and financing
  • Assessment of DSM Potential
  • Demonstration of pilot DSM Program in commercial, municipal, residential and agricultural sectors, e.g. CFL Program, FTL Program, Municipal Water Pumping, Street Lighting, Solar/LPG Hot water, etc.
  • Development of commercial energy efficiency building codes
