About the International Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC)

The International Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC) was founded in 1984 as a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization.  It addresses global issues concerning the use, management, and production of energy, working to secure clean and reliable energy for all.  Recognizing the integral link between socioeconomic developmentand effective energy management, the IIEC focuses on increasing energy efficiency, electrification rates, and creatinglivelihoods in the most vulnerable communities.  The IIEC marries sound energy policy with hands-on implementation in order to reduce carbon emissions and encourage sustainable development.

Leading the transition to clean energy requires a flexible and dynamic approach. Over the past 30 years, the IIEC has established a niche – combining international expertise with local knowledge, and integrating policy with direct action. This means implementing new technologies while addressing consumer behavior through policy, demand-side management, and educational programs. The IIEC works with key stakeholders across all sectors to connect international best practice with the unique needs of the communities it serves.
