Mainstreaming Energy Efficiency Measures in Thai Municipalities (MEET) (2008 -2012)
The Mainstreaming Energy Efficiency Measures in Thai Municipalities (MEET) Project is designed to improve Thailand’s energy security and decrease the rate of greenhouse gas emissions by promoting energy efficiency (EE) initiatives in Thai municipalities. A key outcome of the MEET project will be the strengthened capacity of PEA and municipalities to identify, design, finance, and implement EE measures.
The overall objective of the MEET project is to establish a sustainable business model(s) for the large scale implementation of EE measures in buildings occupied by the municipalities of PEA’s service area and also for public street lighting. This objective is to be accomplished by the demonstration of EE benefits through pilot projects implemented through a customized financing arrangement; finalizing a plan for large scale replication nation-wide complimented by enhancing the capacity of PEA and municipalities in EE project development and implementation; and supplemented with a communication and outreach program covering all sectors of the community.
The key tasks of this project are to: 1) Design and implement pilot municipal energy efficiency projects;2) Structure innovative project finance arrangements; 3) Prepare plan for replicating municipal energy efficiency project; 4) Strengthen capacity of PEA and municipalities to mainstream Energy Efficiency measures; and 5) Prepare a communication and outreach program.
