Commitment to IIEC Mission
Since its establishment, almost 30 years ago, IIEC staff have comprised of professionals who were passionate about its mission in the pursuit of energy efficiency and conservation as a pragmatic cornerstone for sustainable development. IIEC’s recruitment policies have ensured the engagement of committed staff from the region, with both local and international experience. This provides IIEC with unique “boots on the ground” capacity for implementation.Strategic Approach and Innovation
IIEC prides itself in being the forerunner in energy efficiency project implementation and achieving tangible results that benefit society as a whole. The focus has been the practical application of EE&EC and developing meaningful long-term partnerships with a range of stakeholders and project partners. Extensive on-site research is conducted prior to design of programs and Monitoring & Verification (M&V) procedures are established prior to implementation. The IIEC approach has become known for its innovations in finance such as eco-housing mortgages, in new technologies such as solar thermal hybrids, and in policies such as feeder based demand acquisition. This approach has ensured the expansion of pilot programs to large scale implementation utilising the resources of local institutions for sustainability.Wealth of International Experience in Asia and Pacific Region
IIEC has grown from strength to strength in the implementation Demand-Side Management (DSM) and a wide range of EE and Renewable Energy (RE) projects in the Asia Pacific region. Current IIEC staff in Asia have project experience in the Philippines, China, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Lao PDR, Cambodia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Cook Islands, Tonga, Samoa, South Africa, Kenya, Maldives, Malawi, Mongolia, USA, Australia, New Zealand and India on energy efficiency and renewable energy related projects.Practical Experience in Utility Supported DSM and EE Programs in Asia Pacific Region and Africa

Commitment to High Quality Training and Capability Building
IIEC stresses capability to transfer to and the active involvement of local personnel in all our assignments. We take a “learn-by-doing” approach to our projects, because we know that the best way for someone to learn a skill or technique is to actually use it to accomplish something tangible. We have also completed formal training courses on Energy Efficiency and DSM in many countries in the Asian region. In the DSM project in Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and South Africa capacity building of the DSM staff was one of the key objectives of the project. All these projects had a very comprehensive training program over a number of years. The proposed Consultants have had experience in developing, preparing, and conducting training programs on EE/ RE investment-grade studies in many countries in Asia such as India, the Philippines, Kenya, Maldives, and Vietnam.
Innovation in Implementation
IIEC has shown exemplary approaches in the delivery of several energy efficiency and resources conservation projects. IIEC helped the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) to implement the first-ever large-scale lighting demand-side management program in India which provided innovative micro-credit to consumers to purchase lamps, also supported by warranties. An example of innovative interest buy-down mechanisms in the eco-housing promotion is another program where IIEC helped the urban local bodies meeting the technical innovations supported by financing mechanisms. In a trendsetting initiative in the demand-side management sector, IIEC, through a novel partnership with a leading electricity regulatory commission and public and private utilities used the DSM Bidding approach that helped the utility in meeting the demand-savings goals by creating a challenge to private sector implementers to bid capacity offset in the domestic, public and commercial sectors.
