Lessons Learned from Energy Assessment and Training Activities in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM)

IIEC was contracted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)’s Multi-Country Office (MCO) to conduct a series of energy audits and a training program in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). The audits, which were carried out in five public and commercial building sites in Pohnpei State, were designed to identify opportunities to improve EE and to help FSM develop long-term strategies for the implementation of EE projects.

Activities included: (1) Preliminary energy audits (PEAs) in five buildings; (2) detailed energy audits (DEAs); (3) design and implementation of energy saving schemes; and (4) capacity building of personnel from the Department of Energy, Ministry of Resources and Development (DOE-MRD).

The demonstration of energy saving schemes in the selected sites is expected to be replicated in three other Micronesian States (i.e., Chuuk, Yap, and Kosrae) in the near future.
